LBJ- those pics show I've got big guys on the boards I'm talking about. Just my opinion though, you do what works for you. Why learn one way, and then have to go back and re- learn another way. Someone learning should learn to do it the right way. Everyone has different tastes and expectations.Īlso, I would have to disagree with the advice to remove a fin. Once upon a time people talked about the blue lake like it was god's gift to big surf boards so I bought one. I know what I am talking about here trust me. Just have a hard time recommending it like it is the right board for everyone. Understand better now? And honestly, I am sure the big boy is a great board for some people. What is worthless, completely and utterly, is just a still of someone riding the wave as if it proves anything. You can make a lot of assumptions about that. Sure if you have a shot of someone airing it out a couple feet above the wave it is really meaningful. The point I was making (you missed it) was that pictures really mean almost nothing. Thats great! Glad your friend got hooked and glad he got up the first time. OP asked about it and I gave feedback as to how I think about it.Īnd for LBJ, that was the first time Chris had surfed.so yep he was holding the rope. Not overly concerned with your likes or if you approve, it works for me and the folks I know. certainly wouldnt work removing fins for an air 180 landing and riding it out heelside backwards, juuust started those at the end of the season and what a trainwreck, but we arent talking about that. then after a few times fin can go back on and grow from there. Its a temp adjustment to get them to spin and ride out their first 360. I could care less about symmetry in this scenario. Heelside remove a fin and no difference most of the time. However start pulling fins off on the toe side worried about symmetry and folks slide out on the wave and fall not being used to it, creating an additional set of problems you arent looking for. fairly tough for someone learning to spin a board with 4 fins whether quad, twinzer or XYZ. I try to get them there as fast as possible. Once they get the feel and the motion of coming all the way around, they stand a better chance of riding it out. I didnt specificy whether it was the small fin or the big one. Removing fins is a quick and easy way to get folks into spinning who are having trouble getting themselves around.
